If you constantly break a social networking site terms of service, can legal action be taken against you?
I ask because I know some people who post nude photos of themselves online that is against some sites TOS. What if they keep doing it over and over again?

The ‘Terms of Service’ are not civi or criminal law,
the are the private rules of a private endeavor.
They can bar you from the site, (suspend service),
for breaking them. That’s about it.
With something like photos, it might be up to other users to report the violation.
(I’d guess that only ugly nudes would be reported.)

How to control time teenagers spend with social networking?

You will thereby be vicariously controlling teenagers.

I suggest you leave that up to the school teachers, they got a firm grasp at it.

I need to write a paper and must have the con’s of Social networking sites.
Statistics and sources are very much appreciated!
Thanks for the help

How much does it cost to setup a Social Networking site.
Are there any Social Networking Development Tools for rapid site development, how much do they cost and does that include Web Sever/DB hosting, what would be the ideal hosting platform and space requirements?

Hello Adrian,

I recommend you to check SkaDate community software at http://www.SkaDate.com. It is a turn-key solution for creating a professional social networking site.

The software costs $350, which is a one-time fee. SkaDate team will install it to your server, and you will get an up and running site with such features as photo and video sharing, albums, groups, events system, forum, blogs in no time. The default software package includes access to the source code, free templates ( http://www.SkaDate.com/site_samples.php ), access to the customer support forum, free lifetime access to all version updates and upgrades.

Important – a hosting company has to be chosen in accordance with the selected software system requirements. Here is a list of the hosting companies perfectly suitable for SkaDate software: http://www.SkaDate.com/hosting.php

To start an online community site a shared hosting plan with about 400-500 MB disk space and 20 GB bandwidth will be more than enough. Eventually, as your members database gets bigger, you will need switch to a larger plan. And if you need better performance at higher traffic load – you will be able to move your site to a dedicated server.

I would like to know how Tom runs myspace.
I think I would like to know how, and start one of my own.

I tried a lot search engines to search for Build Social Networking.
I tried some sites, like Ning, Kickapps, goingon, and elgg.
Which one or any social networking sites will look like Myspace, and act like myspace?

social networking is a huge growing field. If you want to understand the ins/outs you probably need to talk to some web developers. There are a ton of social networking websites out there these days.

Other ms alts:

Facebook.com
Linked In

I have been doing some research on how to create a social networking site but I am confused on a lot of the lingo. I would really appreciate it if you could explain simply how to go about creating such a site.

First off, get a boatload of cash. You’ll need it either to hire a developer, or to go to college to learn how to program. From there, you just need to put together a plan….I’d start small, considering the fact that the social networking market is flooded and there is about a 99% chance that whatever you create will flop.

If you plan to do the school thing, you’ll want to make some friends. Even a rock-star of a developer would take a year or two to develop facebook to its current status, flying solo.

Oh and you’ll also want to plan to spend a lot of time practicing. It takes about 10 years, or 10 thousand hours of practice to become a master of any aspect of development (such as web development…which is what you’d need).

I don’t say this to tell you your idea is ridiculous. I say it because you are profoundly underestimating what goes into this, simply by asking this question…as if there were some cookbook out there that would guide you through making a social networking site.

You don’t necessarily need to be a pro, but you need to realize that this is not something you can just read tutorials about online. It is serious, and it takes a lot of money and a lot of drive.

I know basic html, is it enough to build my own social networking site?

where can I find information on skills required to build my own social networking site

Basic HTML will not be enough.

You will need to know other technologies as well, particularly the server-side stuff. On top of that you’re going to need to be good with databases – and being _good_ with databases is a whole lot different from say, "knowing a bit of Access"…

I’d say as a bare minimum you’d need to know HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP and MySQL – and that’s as the _minimum_.

For information on these languages, simply search the net for FAQs and tutorials.

Rawlyn.

Who hate social networking and have no account on websites like facebook, myspace, twitter etc.

Why do you think it is a waste of effort and time? Or, is the reason something else?

I hate it because its fake. People friend request you just so they can add another number to their amount of "friends" rather than actually try and pursue a friendship or keep in touch. The intentions of these sites are good, but the green monster of snobbery comes with it.

Professor mentioned that proximity is a major factor in relationship building-that relationships can only form when you are around the other person more frequently. However, I challenged my professor and asked her, "With the prevalence of social networking sites today, can you say that what you just said is not at all true?" She paused and said, "… Good point josh. Do a report on it." So here I am now, I’m asking all of you. What have social networking sites done for you in your relationship building in the past years?

Hi Josh

Tell your professor that "proximity is relative."

For example, I go to church with a lot of people but I can’t say that I personally know many of them. Face to face interaction does not always breed better communication, fact is sometimes it can get in the way of conversation all together.

I am a "Wanna B" writer. I once took a writing class where I was told that if I did not write my article with pen and paper first that I would not succeed as a writer. As a result I haven’t done much for the art of writing until last month when I discovered Associated Content. With their service I have already had over 1500 people read my articles. It is incredible, and it is all online.

Why do I bring this up?

Simple.

When we refuse to see and embrace what the next generation is making available to us we are the ones who lose. Today is the day for social networking and technology, for someone to say that it can only be as it has always been is to be extremely short sighted.

I have met people in India, Belgium, Canada, UK & even the US that have entered into business deals, joint ventures, deep friendships and more with all from the comfort of my own computer. It does not limit the ability to communicate, but rather it changes it in seriously dramatic ways that are excitingly powerful. Less, of course, you want to step back to the old days of the face to face connections. Both are good, to be sure. But to say one superceeds the other as better? Well, if I were to go their I would be found on the side of social networking in that debate.

The problem is that people don’t like taking the time to read what others have said so that they can contribute. Even here, I checked your profile and saw no mention of your name. Only by being fully engaged in what you had to say did it become clear to me that your name was Josh and thus the reason that I started out my Email by saying "Hi Josh"

I hope that helps
